Dedicated to the preservation breeding of Havanese puppies and to breed resources. Home of Canadian Purebred Havanese and your source for puppies and information about this intelligent, beautiful, loving, and mischievous breed!
Manzanillo Havanese Kennel takes its name from the city of Manzanillo, in Cuba (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manzanillo,_Cuba), to honor the birthplace of Lic. Juan Rafael Pacheco, the father of one of its owners, Dr. Angel E. Pacheco. In our minds, the Havanese breed, originating in Cuba, and being the national dog of Cuba, merits the honor of distinguishing one of its cities with the name of our Manzanillo Havanese Kennel.
My wife Mérida and I are originally from the Dominican Republic, a sister island of Cuba in the Caribbean, and sharing the same Hispanic language and heritage. Prior to relocating to Canada, we used to breed German Shepherd Dogs, under our Pacheco Kennel. But the realities of the tropical weather of the Caribbean are very different to the harsh climate of our new Canadian home. Thus, we decided that maintaining several German Shepherd Dogs inside the house was an untenable proposition, to say the least!
Mérida and I, being dog lovers, decided to adopt a new breed, one that we could raise inside the home, to protect them from the harshness of the South-of-the-North-Pole Canadian winter. Thus, after a lengthy process of studying and decision making process, we arrived at the conclusion that we wanted to breed Havanese dogs.
Important factors in our decision-making process were the personality of these little rascals: very intelligent, always loving, friendly, and, yes, mischievous. The Havanese dogs are very playful, they crave the company of humans and love to be with people. No wonder they are referred to with the moniker of “velcro” dogs.
All strangers are immediately their best friends. They do become yappy occasionally, but typically only when you return to the home after leaving them by themselves for a while. At that moment, they let you know in no uncertain terms that they missed you!
The Havanese are so friendly that I am afraid they will “kill” with kisses any stranger entering the home…. Yes, that friendly!
Once we chose the breed we wanted to dedicate ourselves to, we made contact with a few local breeders. We were fortunate that Margaret Lacey Wardle, Owner/Breeder of DelSol Havanese, along with her husband Doug Wardle and her sister Kathy Yarosloski, trusted us with our first Havanese, future CKC Ch DelSols Moogie. Our second Havanese is also Margaret’s breeding, DelSols Maya.
We are very thankful to Margaret and her team for the continued mentoring and expert guidance, which we truly appreciate and are thankful for. We are specially thankful to Margaret for allowing us to have our Foundation Bitchof the Manzanillo Havanese Kennel, CKC Ch DelSols Moogie.
